The Role

To maintain complete sets of books, keep records of accounts, verify the procedures used for recording financial transactions, and provide professional bookkeeping services. The bookkeeper will complete a full set of books up to and including a trial balance.

The Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and performing full cycle bookkeeping.
  • Maintaining financial records for the clients.
  • Assemble year end information
  • Calculate and prepare cheques for payrolls, government remittances including payroll, GST/HST, Workers Compensation Board, corporate taxes, personal taxes and other government levies.
  • Prepare T1, T3, T4, T5 and other tax filings.
  • Prepare other statistical, financial and accounting reports

 

Education

  • Diploma, degree or certificate in accounting, business administration or other relevant course in accounting
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a bookkeeper with payroll as part of the responsibilities
  • Previous experience in an accounting firm supporting multiple client files is preferred

 

Software:

  • QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, Simply Accounting
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following payroll solutions (ADP Pay@work, ADP TeamPay, Payworks, Ceridian, CRA online payroll calculator, or others)
  • Familiarity with accounting automation software such as Hubdoc or Receipt Bank will be considered an asset
  • Intermediate skills in excel

The Responsibilities

  • Review assignments including audit, review, compilation, corporate tax, personal tax, estate, bookkeeping and other compliance, tax research and accounting work
  • Review tax provisions for clients
  • Interact with clients and other team members
  • Assist Senior Manager and team members
  • Assist in the development and implementation of tax planning strategies for various clients
  • Keep up-to-date on the content and practical applications of tax, accounting and assurance standards, and know how to access and research professional and technical materials
  • Manage the workflow within the department
  • Collaborate with other managers and senior managers for capacity and resource planning

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration
  • CPA designation in good standing
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Successful completion or perusing the CPA in-depth tax course

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in public practice
  • Proven ability to recognize planning opportunities for individuals and their businesses
